Asterand UK
Asterand plc is the leading global supplier of human tissue and human tissue-based research services to pharmaceutical companies engaged in drug discovery and development. They are based in Royston, UK, and in Detroit and San Francisco, USA, employing over 100 employees across the three locations.
Due to the economic downturn Asterand’s training budget was very limited, but their immediate training needs were vital in implementing regulated practices essential to their business.
The support from Beyond 2010 enabled us to complete training essential to achieve GLP Compliance and has allowed us to broaden the range of services we offer our customers to include human tissue-based safety studies. We have also seen an increase in motivation amongst the employees and confidence in the implementation of regulated practices. The funding has significantly helped us move the business forward – even in a recession
After talking to the sector advisor at Beyond 2010, Asterand decided to apply for Beyond 2010 funding and have seen a large number of employees trained intensively, enabling the company to become a member of the UK Good Laboratory Practice Compliance Programme.
The Beyond 2010 business support programme is delivered by Essex County Council and funded by the European Social Fund and East of England Development Agency. ERBI work with Essex County Council to deliver the Lifescience & Healthcare sector for Beyond 2010.
